KUALA LUMPUR: A poison e-mail maligning her image and even issuing a death threat to a close journalist friend, has led singer Siti Nurhaliza to take extra security precautions.
The 25-year-old artiste is not taking the e-mail lightly although it has been in circulation in recent months.
Sit?s manager, Rozi Abdul Razak, who is also her sister-in-law, told The Malay Mail that the management had taken necessary actions to ensure the singe?s safety.
According to the e-mail which disparages the multi-award-winning singer, Siti is alleged to harbour a “”dark side”” to her otherwise sweet demeanour.
The e-mail, which has been circulating among those in the entertainment industry, also maligns seven entertainment journalists reported to be close to Siti.
One of the journalists is said to have even received a death threat, via the e-mail.
Despite the slander contained in the e-mail, The Malay Mail learnt that Siti continues to perform at all her sell-out shows.
Karyawan, the body which overseas the welfare of local singers, has appointed seven lawyers to act against the source of the e-mail.
Its chairman, Zainal Abidin Omar, said initial investigations revealed that someone in the entertainment industry could be responsible for the e-mail.
He said Karyawan had brought the matter to the attention of Deputy Internal Security Minister Datuk Noh Omar and the police for further action.
Federal Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Musa Hassan said police viewed the matter seriously as it was a criminal matter.
He said the police would determine if personal protection should be extended to those who had been issued death threats.
