PETALING JAYA, April 12 (Bernama) — Songbird Siti Nurhaliza Taruddin drew the crowds at the Magistrate’s Court here Tuesday where veteran singer Datuk Sharifah Aini Syed Jaafar is on trial for defaming her.

Siti, 25, is a witness at the trial. Dressed in black pants and a white blouse with black polka dots, she arrived at the court at 8.45am, accompanied by her brother, Saiful Bahari Taruddin, and sister-in-law, Rozie Abdul Razak.

Sharifah Aini, in a black baju kurung with red flowers, arrived in a black Proton Perdana at 9.55am.

The court and its surroundings were packed with people keen to follow the trial and catch a glimpse of Siti up close.

Sharifah Aini, 52, is charged with defaming Siti Nurhaliza through e-mails sent to her adopted brother, Ahmad Shaharil Jamaludin, at her house at No 42, Lorong Utara, off Jalan Utara, here at 4.52pm on Aug 24 last year.

The charge under section 500 of the Penal Code carries a maximum two years jail or a fine, or both, on conviction.

The trial is set for four days beginning today.
