“KUALA LUMPUR April 7 – Samsung Malaysia Electronics (SME) Sdn Bhd, a global leader in semiconnductor, telecommunication, flat panel display and digital convergence technology, expects its total sales to grow by 15-17 percent this year which is equivalent to US$280 million as compared to last year at US$240 million.
Managing director, Won Jong Duk said at a press conference Wednesday that Samsung IT business last year had contributed US$30 million.
“”This year, we expect the IT business would contribute US$40 million,”” he said after the launch of three new Samsung products.
“”The products launched Wednesday reestablish Samsung’s vision of being a leader in the digital convergence revolution,”” Won said during the product launching.
SME Wednesday was launched its three new products offering IT segment – the Samsung CLP-500 range of colour laser printers, Samsung SyncMaster 173P/193P Premium LCD Monitor and the Samsung Professional Plasma Monitor.
Samsung monitors had contributed 25 percent in market share, its general manager of IT marketing, Park Ki Beom said adding that monitors were expected to achieve 30 percent share this year.
For the Samsung TFT-LCD monitor, Park said it was expected to achieve about 40 percent in market share as compared to 38 percent last year.
And the Samsung laser printers were expected to contribute 20 percent this year as compared to last year which was about 15 percent, he added.
Additionally, as part of the “”Sama-sama Samsung”” campaign that was incorporated last year, the company announced its collaboration with Siti Nurhaliza who had been named Samsung’s new ambassador of Samsung IT product division.
Meanwhile, on Samsung’s A&P (Advertising and Promotion), Won said the company had invested about five percent in A&P of the total sales in 2004.
