KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 7 (Bernama) — Eight young Malaysians will take part in the final of RTM’s patriotic singing contest, “Idola Patriotik 2007”, to be telecast live from Angkasapuri at 8.30pm on Friday.
Broadcasting deputy director-general (Programmes) Datuk Adilah Shek Omar said the contest was organised to provide a platform for young people to foster love for the country by singing patriotic songs.
“It is also to add joy and merriment to the country’s 50th independence celebration as well as instil patriotism among the young generation,” she told reporters here today.
“The patriotic spirit can be nurtured through songs where understanding of the songs can instil love for the country,” she added.
The eight finalists are Zalina Kassim, 25, Emil Hamlyn ak Paul Diring, 28, Muhaimin Azzahan, 20, Rosmawati Mat Dali, 28, Syaifana Muhamed Subri, 21, Ahmad Falah Ahmad Bassim, 22, Fadzirul Nidzam Ishak, 27, and Farah Nabilla Noor Anuar, 27.
The “Idola Patriotik 2007” singing contest received encouraging response with more than 1,000 participants nationwide with 26 selected for the semi-final.
Besides a trophy and certificate each for the winners, the first prize winner will receive RM10,000, the runner-up RM5,000 and the third placed RM3,000. There will also be consolation prizes of RM500 each.
Deputy Information Minister Datuk Ahmad Zahid Hamidi will give away the prizes.
The audience will also be entertained by artistes like Izwan Pilus, Azharina Azhar, Victor Lee, Banumitha, Siti Sarah, Nora and a special appearance by Datuk Siti Nurhaliza.
