Take a stroll with Siti Nurhaliza

By KALBANA PERIMBANAYAGAM
FANS of Datuk Siti Nurhaliza, get your walking shoes and sports attire ready for ‘The Malay Mail’ Big Walk 2006/07 on April 29, as you will be strolling with the pop queen on that day.

Yesterday, Siti Nurhaliza and hubby Datuk Khalid Mohd Jiwa or Datuk K registered for the Biggie’s three-kilomentre Fun Walk.

“I’m looking forward to the Biggie because this is the first time I’ve signed up for such a walk,” Siti Nurhaliza said.

“I used to be very active in sports back in school, but now I have slowed down due to my career.

“I don’t think it will be a problem for us to walk in the Biggie as we visit Taman Melawati at least four times a week for our routine exercise. ‘Insyaallah’ we should complete the 3km without any problems,” she added.

Siti, who married Datuk K last August, said she is happy to be taking part in an event with a noble cause — to help children who have lost their limbs to bone cancer.

Yesterday, the couple also pledged RM10,000 from their charity foundation, Nur Jiwa Foundation, in aid of children.

Siti Nurhaliza and Datuk K aren’t the only A-List celebrities taking part in the walk. Participants may find themselves walking next to other celebrities including Norman Hakim and wife Abby Abadi, Alif of ‘One In A Million’, Dina of ‘Malaysian Idol’, Zehra Zambri and Channel [V]’s Vj Joey G — all of whom have signed up for the same category.

RM1 from each RM10 participation fee will be used to buy prosthetic limbs for the children.

The closing date for the Biggie’s registration has been extended from April 21 to April 28, due to the overwhelming response, calls and requests from various parties.

The Biggie will be flagged off at Dataran Merdeka at 7am and will end at Padang Merbok in Jalan Parlimen where all activities will be held.

Those who have yet to register can only do so at the FTAAA office in Wisma OCM, Jalan Hang Jebat, Kuala Lumpur.

Investigation paper sent to Selangor HQ

by MUZLIZA MUSTAFA
POLICE have finally wrapped up their investigation into the alleged assault case by businessman Datuk Khalid Mohd Jiwa, better known as Datuk K.

A police source told The Malay Mail that the investigation paper (IP) has been sent to the Selangor police headquarters legal department in Shah Alam for scrutinising on Friday, some three weeks after investigations were launched.

It is learnt that such a move is standard procedure when a case involves a high-profile individual such as Khalid.

Khalid is the husband of singer Datuk Siti Nurhaliza.

It is understood that a team from the Selangor police headquarters would go through the IP and scrutinise the documents and evidence presented.

The process, it is understood, is to ensure that it all information is sufficient and thorough enough before being handed over to the deputy public prosecutor’s office for further action.

The IP would be returned to the Ampang Jaya police headquarters for updates if needed.

It is learnt that at least five people were interviewed and have their statements recorded since the report was lodged by 18-year-old Muhammad Kasheef Harris on March 20.

In the police report, Muhammad Kasheef claimed he was assaulted by Khalid on March 17 at the latter’s ex-wife’s house in Bukit Antarabangsa, Ampang.

Also in the report, Muhammad Kasheef claimed he had gone to the house upon receiving a text message from Khalid’s son, Muhammad Adib, 17, asking for help. Both are childhood friends.

He claimed Khalid had ordered him to sit and then punched him in the face.

Muhammad Kasheef also claimed Khalid landed several blows, kicked him in the jaw and accused him of dealing in drugs.

He had also alleged that Khalid made a telephone call and later when a man arrived, Muhammad Kasheef was instructed to undergo a urine test.

The test turned out negative.

Boy’s parents plan to sue

KASHEEF’S parents, contractor Harris Abdullah, 49, and lawyer Shahin Akhtar, 47, said they only knew of the alleged assault on Monday night when Shahin received a call from Khalid’s ex-wife, Tengku Zawyah Tengku Idzham.

“The children usually stay in their rooms, so we hardly saw Kasheef over the weekend until Tengku Zawyah called close to 11pm asking me if I knew what had happened to my son,” claimed Shahin.

“When I asked her about it, she said I should ask my son first.”

Shahin, who claimed that it was the fi rst time she had spoken to Tengku Zawyah in all the years they had been neighbours, said they confronted Kasheef who broke down when he recounted the alleged assault.

“This is incredible.

What does Datuk K have against my son and what right does he have to beat him up?” asked Harris.

“If he suspected that my son was taking drugs, he could have taken the matter up with me or my wife instead of dealing with it in this manner.

To top it all off, it was also proven that my son does not take drugs.”

Shahin said she was upset and will take civil action against Khalid.

“I don’t understand how he can accuse Kasheef of taking drugs and influencing his son into taking drugs,” she said.

“My children are nice kids who do not take drugs.”

Kasheef claimed that a week earlier, he had heard from Khalid’s elder brother that Muhammad Adib and nine other friends from the same school were told by the school to undergo urine and blood tests for drugs.

Kasheef claimed that he did not know the test results but believes that his childhood friend is not taking drugs.

“Although the bruises and aches are almost gone, I still have trouble hearing with my left ear.”

When contacted, Tengku Zawyah declined to comment.
