Siti Nurhaliza Not Ready To Join Politics Yet

SHAH ALAM, Feb 9 (Bernama) — Popular singer Datuk Siti Nurhaliza Taruddin will continue to be active in singing and is not ready to be involved in politics yet.
“A lot of people have asked me when I would be joining politics but for now I want to concentrate on singing. Not the right time yet,” she told reporters after handing aid to a children’s home, Rumah Kanak-Kanak Ini Disayangi (KIDS), here Tuesday, in her capacity as the Jaya Jusco Foundation’s ambassador.
She said although she was not planning to enter politics, she would continue to support certain political or government activities.
“I will continue to give my support… I’ve always attended and joined functions organised by the government. That’s my support,” she said.
She was asked to comment on a report that she was planning to be active in politics and was cultivating her interest in the field.
“Maybe some people thought that I was interested in politics after seeing my husband and I going down to the grassroots and handing out aid to the people,” she said.
On the setting up of the Nur Jiwa Foundation by her and her husband, Datuk Khalid Muhammad Jiwa, Siti said she was happy with her welfare work besides her career as a singer.
On her role as Jaya Jusco Foundation’s ambassador, she said would continue to honour the appointment as it was not in conflict with her Nur Jiwa Foundation activities.

Siti, Datuk K Bring Cheer To Evacuees In Raub
RAUB, Jan 23 (Bernama) — Malaysia’s pop diva Datuk Siti Nurhaliza Tarudin today brought cheer to 52 villagers of Kampung Kuala Semantan here who have been spending the nights at a flood relief centre over the past three days.
Siti Nurhaliza through Yayasan Nurjiwa jointly set up with her husband Datuk Khalid Mohamad Jiwa offered relief aid in the form of foodstuff and clothing to 15 families sheltered at the centre.
She said the experience in helping flood victims in Johor earlier prompted her to continue providing aid to flood evacuees in other places.
“I and my husband actually planned to go to Pahang because I know Rompin district has been hit by floods but when we came to know Raub and Lipis have been inundated by floodwaters, we changed our plan and came here first,” she told reporters when met with her husband at Kampung Kuala Semantan mosque.
Siti hoped their contributions would help lighten the evacuees’ burden.

Grand Launch Of M’sia-Indonesia Titian Budaya Programme
JAKARTA, Dec 17 (Bernama) — More than 1,500 guests, including VIPs, attended a gala dinner for the launch of a cultural exchange programme between Malaysia and Indonesia, known as “Titian Budaya”, at the Plenary Hall of the Jakarta Convention Centre (JCC) here Saturday night.
Also present were Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, his Indonesian counterpart, Jusuf Kalla, Malaysian Culture, Arts and Heritage Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim and his Indonesian counterpart, Ir Jero Wacik, and their wives.
Malaysian Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor, who is in the republic to promote the Visit Malaysia Year 2007, was also present.
The programme began with an overture by Malaysia’s number one singer, Datuk Siti Nurhaliza Taruddin, who was accompanied by dancers from Istana Budaya, the Temple of Fine Arts and Dua Space Dance Theatre.
Other artistes performing at the function included Mawi, Haziq AF4, Banumitha, Andre Goh and Edrie Nazrin. They were accompanied by the Malaysia’s National Symphony Orchestra from Istana Budaya.
